NICU Stays & Perinatal Loss Therapy
Accepting both in-person and virtual therapy clients in Minnesota.
At Mindful Wellbeing, we focus on compassionate and specialized therapy services for individuals and families who have experienced the challenges of having a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as well as families who have experienced perinatal loss.
Many of our therapists come from a variety of professional settings such as hospitals (including Labor & Delivery units, Special Care Nurseries, and NICU), childcare centers and early childhood services. Additionally, many have lived experience with pregnancy, postpartum, pregnancy loss and/or NICU stays. Mindful Wellbeing was founded with intentional focus on the perinatal population - it truly is a foundational aspect of the care we provide to the community.
We understand that the journey of welcoming a new life into the world can be filled with unexpected twists and turns, and our dedicated therapists are here to offer support, guidance, and healing to families during these difficult times.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Families
For families whose babies are in or have recently been discharged from the NICU, the experience can be overwhelming, emotional, and at times, traumatic. Whether your baby's NICU admission was planned or unplanned, for complex medical diagnoses or prematurity, our therapists are here to help.
Why NICU Families Might Seek Therapy
The stress and anxiety of having a baby in the NICU can be emotionally taxing for parents and families, with feelings of fear, anxiety, guilt, grief, and uncertainty.
Caring for a baby with complex medical needs can be challenging and overwhelming for parents and families.
The NICU journey can test the resilience of parents and families, requiring them to adapt to unexpected challenges and setbacks.
How Therapy Can Help NICU Families
Therapy helps parents build resilience, cultivate self-care practices, and develop coping skills to navigate the ups and downs of the NICU experience with strength and grace.
Therapy provides a safe and nonjudgmental space to express emotions, process the trauma of the NICU experience, and find validation, empathy, and support. We specialize in EMDR to process trauma.
Therapy provides education, resources, and support to help parents navigate the medical system, understand their baby's diagnosis and treatment plan, and advocate for their baby's health and wellbeing.
Therapy can connect families with resources, support groups, and other families who have experienced similar challenges, providing a sense of connection, community, and shared understanding.
Perinatal Loss Experience
For families who have experienced perinatal loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death, the pain and grief of losing a baby can be profound and overwhelming. Our therapists offer support to help families navigate the complex emotions of grief, loss, and mourning, and find healing and hope in the midst of their sorrow.
Why Families Seek Therapy for Perinatal Loss
The loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death is a devastating experience that can leave families feeling overwhelmed by grief, sadness, and despair.
Perinatal loss can be a traumatic experience for parents and families, with lasting emotional and psychological effects.
The experience of perinatal loss can strain relationships within families, with partners, and with friends and loved ones.
How Therapy Can Help Families who Have Experienced Perinatal Loss
