Our EMDR Intensives provide a focused and immersive experience designed to accelerate healing and promote lasting change.
What Happens During an
EMDR Intensive
An EMDR intensive is a vigorous in-person therapy experience that typically spans several consecutive days for 3-4 hours per day, allowing clients to delve deeply into their healing work in a supportive and structured environment. Here's what you can expect during an EMDR intensive at Mindful Wellbeing:
Comprehensive Assessment: Prior to the start of the intensive, you will undergo a thorough assessment with one of our trained EMDR therapists. During this assessment, we will work together to identify your treatment goals, assess your readiness for intensive therapy, and develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.
Preparation Phase: The intensive begins with a preparatory phase, during which your therapist will provide you with education about EMDR therapy, establish a sense of safety and trust, and teach you coping skills to manage any distress that may arise during the intensive.
Target Selection: Together with your therapist, you will identify specific targets or memories that you would like to process and resolve during the intensive. These targets may include past traumatic events, negative beliefs about yourself, or distressing memories that continue to impact your life.
Processing Sessions: The core of the EMDR intensive involves a series of processing sessions, during which you will focus on one target memory or issue at a time. Using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, taps, or auditory tones, your therapist will guide you through the process of reprocessing the targeted memory, allowing you to integrate new insights and perspectives.
Integration and Reflection: Between processing sessions, you will have opportunities to reflect on your experiences, insights, and emotions with your therapist. These reflection periods help to deepen your understanding of the changes occurring within you and facilitate the integration of new adaptive beliefs and perspectives.
Closure and Follow-Up: At the conclusion of the intensive, your therapist will work with you to ensure a sense of closure and completion. You will develop strategies for maintaining the gains made during the intensive and receive recommendations for ongoing therapy or support as needed.
Benefits of an EMDR Intensive
An EMDR intensive offers numerous benefits for clients seeking to overcome trauma, heal emotional wounds, and reclaim their lives:
Accelerated healing
Deeper processing of trauma
Profound insights and breakthroughs
Enhanced integration of insights and adaptive beliefs
Increased self-awareness
Improved resilience
Note: A non-refundable deposit will be required on the day that you schedule your intensive with the remainder of the balance due on the first day of service for the intensive. EMDR intensives are private pay due to limitations with insurance which does not presently allow for services to be provided in this manner in an outpatient setting. However, for some people it can work better to intensely focus on resolving their distress rather than meeting once or twice weekly to try to move through it.
