Art Therapy

Now accepting in-person and virtual therapy clients in Minnesota

At Mindful Wellbeing, we believe that each person has inherent worth and an innate ability to heal. Our work is rooted in compassion, mindfulness, and a deep respect for the unique journey of every individual. Art therapy beautifully embodies these values by offering a creative, embodied, and nonverbal path to wellness. This approach honors the whole self of mind, body, and spirit, and invites clients to explore their emotions, stories, and inner landscapes through the language of imagery and symbolism.

Whether words feel limiting, or you’re seeking a new way to connect with your inner world, art therapy offers a powerful way to access insight, resilience, and healing. It’s not about being an artist — it’s about being human and letting creativity help guide you back to yourself. Through Krista’s warm, inclusive, and intuitive approach, art therapy becomes a supportive extension of our mission: to hold space for meaningful, mindful healing in a way that is affirming, holistic, and deeply personal.

Who Can Benefit?

Art therapy is inclusive and effective across:

  • Individuals seeking new ways to understand and work with emotions

  • Neurodivergent individuals processing burnout and overwhelm

  • Those with anxiety, trauma histories, self-esteem or body relationship challenges

  • Creatives feeling stuck

  • Spiritually curious individuals

Our art therapy sessions look like:

An art therapy session is a gentle, creative, and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences through both art-making and conversation. You don’t need to be “good at art” — the focus is not on making something beautiful or perfect, but on expressing yourself authentically.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and begin with a brief check-in, where we talk about how you’re feeling and what’s been coming up for you lately. From there, your therapist might offer a creative prompt or invite you to choose from a variety of materials — such as paints, pastels, clay, collage, or markers — to express whatever is present for you.

Some sessions may have a theme (like exploring a memory, expressing a feeling, or creating a visual journal), while others may be more open-ended, giving you the freedom to follow your intuition. As you create, your therapist may sit quietly with you, ask gentle questions, or guide you through a mindfulness or body-awareness exercise, depending on your needs that day. Our Art Therapy sessions can be combined with EMDR for trauma processing and somatic healing.

After the art-making time, there’s space to reflect on your creation together. This might include noticing shapes, colors, symbols, metaphors, or sensations that arose during the process — all as a way of deepening your understanding of what’s going on inside you. You’re always in control of how much you share.

Art therapy sessions can be playful, emotional, calming, or surprising. They help people access parts of themselves that are sometimes hard to express with words alone — making room for healing, insight, creative problem-solving, or spiritual connection.
